Jenny Reyneke is a self-taught, Johannesburg-based, fine artist. Her work is nuanced, contemplative and evocative …
Says Jenny about her work, “I seek to express the grace of the quiet musing moment, the inner-dialogues and conversations with nature that occur within the seasons, emotions, experiences and tides of life. For me, the inspiration and the muse is the endlessness – the interconnection between all things; people, places – our urban and rural collectiveness. I do not think that inspiration is something that we find within, but rather something that we dip into… like diving into a river or an ocean, falling into a road, walking in a field, a forest. All nature is conversation and provides us with clues into our own inner workings and or me it is often my redemption. Art is music in colour. At times it’s poetry at others… silence.”
About her upcoming solo exhibition happening this month at the gallery, titled “In places deep”, Jenny says:
“They say we dream in black and white. Though I am not fully convinced of this, when I draw in ink, I feel like enter into a kind of African ‘dreamtime’ that borders on the otherworldly…I draw trees to remember my most integral people and mentors; I draw seas to re-connect to aspects of the subconscious that I’m hesitant to bring into my living.”
