Prints & Princesses & Andy Ellis STORY opened on Thursday 5 May, to the low growl of Harley Davidson Club bikers; models wearing creations from upcoming young designers; artists and Ninja-clad plus other, hipsters from Parkhurst. Henry George gallery curators, Darryl Gray and Mandy Walker comment: “The response to the prints on this show by third year graduates from Artist Proof Studios; emerging artists from KZN’s BAT centre and writer/photographer; Andy Ellis from Cape Town, was incredible. Locals are refining their awareness of the art scene. Out and about, comparing the offerings at various galleries – from Parkhurst to Rosebank to the inner city Maboneng precinct on the First Thursday of every month like they do in New Tork where the “First Thursdays” initiative stems from. And curating their own home collection of works from upcoming SA artists. All at this very exciting time for the local art scene, both here and abroad.”
