Each elaborate image is printed on 100 year old silks and is handstitched by the artist to a thin sheet of Japanese mulberry paper and then sealed with the artist’s mark. the double layered image creates a beautiful soft effect within the image giving the feel of something elusive.

We are entering the final week of Benjamin Skinner’s sensational “WOOLGATHERING” – the exhibition concludes Saturday 22 June and this will be your last chance to view the collection in its entirety. The effect of the double layered print onto 100 year old silk can only be fully appreciated when seen in the flesh, the environment built into the front room of the gallery invites you to sink in and linger until your eyes have adjusted to the warm, dim glow. The work asks for engagement… tempts you to look closer while you slowly become aware of the sound of the original compositions by Jaco Meyer that fill the rooms with a haunting beauty – further removing you from the reality outside. Come and see the body of work that so many journalists deemed too “risqué” and “naked” for them to place in their publications for fear of how it may be perceived.
